2010 Annual Report

2010 was another busy year for Embrace! To read more about it please download our Annual Report for 2010. Some key highlights for the year included...

Hands on Health 2011!

The Monash University Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences is commencing a new program in 2011 to assist local high-school students from a range of underprivileged backgrounds.

The Hands on Health Program aims to offer encouragement and practical support to students studying in the Greater Dandenong and Casey regions. The program will involve hands on experience in local hospitals, as well as free VCE preparation lectures and the provision of free tutoring to promising but underprivileged students with an interest in the Health Sciences.

Optus Grant!

Embrace has won $2,800 through Optus's Connecting Communities grants program. This money will go towards improving tutor training, improving tutor and student resources and expanding our In-School tutoring program.

Schools First Local Impact Award!

In conjunction with Keysborough Secondary College, Embrace has won an 'Impact Award' through the National Australia Bank (NAB) Schools First Program. This will provide Embrace and Keysborough S.C. with $50,000 to spend on improving the program in 2011 and beyond, as well as recognition for the work Embrace has been doing with the school since the program's inception in late 2006.

Embrace Program Coordinator Hired!

Through grants shared between Embrace and several schools, we have been able to hire a part-time coordinator to help oversee the program. In the past the organisation has been completely volunteer run, which at times has been a lot for our committee to manage on top of our own Uni studies and other commitments. Thanks to CMY this funding, which lasts for 3 years, will offer continuity and more stability to the program.

O'Week 2010!

It's almost time for this year's Orientation Week activities, all you new (and old!) Uni students out there keep an eye out for Embrace volunteers promoting the cause! We are currently looking for people keen to help man the O'Week Stall at Monash Uni Clayton. The stall hours of operation are 11am-3pm on Tuesday Feburary 23rd, Wednesday February 24th, and Thursday February 25th. Please let us know at admin@embrace-education.org if you can assist on any of the days.

Annual Report 2009

The 2009 Annual Report has been released, download it for an overview of Embrace's activities during the year that was 2009. Massive thanks to all of our tutors and supporters this year. Happy Holidays and we hope to see you around in 2010!

TSSM VCE Revision Lectures!

Embrace has again paid for year 12 students to attend revision lectures run by TSSM. Last year we sent students along to what amounted to $4872 worth of lectures. With TSSM's support we have been able to extend this relationship this year. Thanks to Embrace and TSSM, students across Melbourne have attended $8099 worth of lectures this year. This was only possible thanks to the generous discount afforded by TSSM. Please visit their website at http://www.tssm.com.au/ and recommend them to people you know who are doing VCE.

New Committee!

The AGM was successfully held and the following C&S positions filled for 2010...

President: Brendan Payne
Vice-President: Michael Beaconsfield
Secretary: Victoria Smith
Treasurer: Simon Bowly
Member Without Portfolio: Lisa Harrison

However as always we will be in need of further people to help out in roles such as Tutor Manager, Website Development, and Donations Manager. If you're keen shoot us an email for more information on what each role involves!

New Website Launched!

The new website is up on the web for all to see! This is all thanks to Katat Choi, a Monash Uni IT student who graciously offered up his time to help design a website that more suited our needs. Have a look around, see what you think, and don't forgot to let us know what you think works well or can be improved upon. We'll be gradually adding new images and content, so don't be surprised to see a few more changes the next time you visit! See below for a quick rundown of some of the new features......

Free tutor training

The free tutor training run by CMY at Monash Uni has now finished, however stay tuned for more training opportunities!

Textbooks donation

Embrace has paid for $690 worth of textbooks for VCE students still without textbooks. A big thank-you to Endeavour Books for the generous discount they offered us, which will allow us to assist more students in need this year. Please visit the Endeavour Books website and recommend them to those you know who are in need of textbooks.
